Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to join our team at Colchester Hospital in the Cancer & Diagnostics Clinical Delivery Group (CDG). 10 programmed activitiesWe are inviting applications for a full-time Consultant Radiologist with a special interest in Gastrointestinal (GI) Imaging.
Applicants must have completed CCT or equivalent (Pathway Portfolio) and must be on the Specialist Register.
Main duties of the job
The job plan will consist of 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week:
8.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions
1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA)
Typically includes audit, governance, CPD, teaching, and appraisal
1 SPA is usually delivered off-site
This indicative job plan will be reviewed annually and adjusted, if necessary, in discussion with the Clinical Lead and General Manager

Job responsibilities
The post holders duties will be primarily based at the Colchester General Hospital. The timetable will include 8.5 direct clinical care (DCC) sessions and 1.5 supporting programmed activities (SPA). 1 SPA is usually off-site. The Candidate will be expected to share with colleagues a commitment to the general reporting, Duty radiology, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, MRI, and CT depending on interests and experience.
The post-holder will:
Work in conjunction with colleagues to provide a comprehensive imaging service. The timetable is worked flexibly and will be agreed with colleagues.
Provide specialist radiological advice and services to users of the radiology department, including MDT participation
Accept responsibility for compliance with ionising and radiation regulations, along with radiation protection supervisor and the radiation protection officers
Accept personal responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to him/her. Provide advice and information as required to clinical colleagues and other staff
Share responsibility for the supervision, training, and professional development of radiographic staff including radiology SpRs and other departmental staff as necessary
Attend regular departmental meetings and participate in department governance and development of the service
General Radiology on-call runs as a 1:16 on-call. On call work is outsourced overnight from 8:30pm weekdays and 1pm weekends to Everlight. The on call radiologist is onsite 5pm-8:30pm weekdays and 9am-1pm weekends and bank holidays. The radiologist remains on-call overnight from home in case of emergency ultrasound and IT failure to connect to Everlight.
