Metro Christian Academy, a private Christian school located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, seeks a full-time Accounting Specialist- Payroll and General Ledger. This is a twelve-month, at-will position with the hours of 7:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the overall coordination and administration of Metro Christian Academy’s accounting functions and reporting; ensures the accuracy and integrity of the same; ensures all activities are performed in a timely manner and in compliance with the policies and procedures established by the Metro Christian Academy board and applicable laws.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
DUTIES:
- Oversees the operations and day-to-day activities of the accounting and finance functions for MCA.
- Manages ledger and financial reporting for school’s various accounts utilizing fund accounting methods; ensures the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all financial reporting.
- Responsible for payroll semi-monthly, including, but not limited to, maintaining changes, submission of data to third-party payroll provider, review of quarterly tax filings, deduction payments, etc.; coordinates with Human Resources department for additions and changes.
- Responsible for account analysis and reconciliation reports including reconciliation of checking accounts, end of month transfer for electronic contributions account, and posting cash receipts for online payments.
- Supervises posting, maintaining, and closing journals ledgers for all departments including, but not limited to, deferred revenue and health insurance journal entries; proofs entries to verify accuracy and completeness; balances accounts and prepares reports; maintains accurate audit trails.
- Prepares financial statements for all departments for the Finance Committee on a monthly basis.
- Responsible for tuition assistance process, including, but not limited to, overseeing, and reviewing applications, compiling recommendation spreadsheet, coordinating Tuition
- Assistance Committee meetings, presenting recommendation to committee, and communicating awards to Accounting Specialist – Accounts Receivable/Receipts, who handles parent communication.
- Posts monthly MCA Foundation activity, prepares financial reports for the Foundation Finance Committee, and calculates annual Foundation distribution to Metro.
- Prepares fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
- Performs a variety of administrative work, including, but not limited to, Student Activity account reconciliations, reconciliation with Advancement Department, and special projects (e.g., elementary sport reimbursements, consolidated activity fee distribution); ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same before submitting for approval.
- Assists with collecting annual budget requests from departments.
- Transports bank deposits, as needed.
- Provides Accounting Specialist-Accounts Receivable/Receipts support with Parental Choice Tax Credit program, as needed.
- Responsible for coordination of annual audit with external auditors; prepares audit paperwork; answers auditor’s questions as necessary.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures good accounting practices are being followed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of current office methods, procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of and ability to use computer based electronic accounting systems and student information systems.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to prepare complex financial reports and records.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to perform routine and complex mathematical calculations repeatedly, rapidly, and accurately.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.
- Ability to maintain the confidential nature of the department.
MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance or related field, and
- Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant, preferred, or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to details.
- Ability to operate various general equipment including a computer and 10-key calculator.
- Ability to hear and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Ability to move hands in a repetitive motion including grasping, holding and finger dexterity.
- Ability to display eye-hand coordination.
- Ability to visually inspect and distinguish colors.
- Ability to prepare and analyze figures.
- Ability to type and keypunch information into a computer.
- Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically.
- Able to do light lifting (up to 15 pounds).
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to details with frequent breaks in concentration
- Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Ability to work with others in a team environment and display good interpersonal skills.
- Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing and/or walking.
- Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 15 lbs.).
