Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under limited supervision, the Staff Registered Nurse 2 will be responsible for providing age specific, developmentally appropriate nursing services and education to students, faculty, and staff accessing care at University Health and Counseling Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide direct nursing care to patients in all clinical setting including primary care, women's health, allergy, immunization, campus outreach and occupational health. Assess patient needs, provide appropriate interventions, document all clinical activities promptly in the electronic health records, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. Initiate a plan of care as designed by physician or advanced practice provider. (50%)
Lead a project for a defined area within the Health Service. May be responsible for one or more of the following areas: Manage psychiatric appointment wait list, medication requests and elevate concerns to psychiatrist and medical director as needed. Provide direction and training of new staff RNs, medical assistants and temporary staff. Occupational Health program development and management. Assess employee-related healthcare needs as related to their job functions including immunizations, pre-exposure screening, post exposure care, and monitoring programs. Lead quality improvement project for lab interface and audits including systems to assure prompt filing of medical information in the patient chart: lab test results, consultation reports, immunizations history. Manage all aspects of the clinical inventory system. Charge RN in assigned clinical area, ensure all clinical work is completed in area. Lead a care management, quality improvement project for defined area within Health Services such as immunization compliance, blood borne pathogen exposure registry coordination of prescription refills. Other areas as determined by clinical needs. (15%)
Conduct initial patient intake with emphasis on risk assessment (mental and physical), triage students to appropriate level of the University Health and Counseling Services system or referral into community care. Implement referral plan for outside services. (10%)
Manage student referrals for care outside of University Health and Counseling Services, (specialist visits, testing, etc.) in coordination with the parameters of the patient¿s health insurance and provide follow-up with students and professionals to assess referral outcomes. (10%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCITONS
Provide recommendations for clinical operations, administrative and nursing procedures. (5%)
Manage the on-call reports and nurse task lists. (2.5%)
Collaborate with peers and other members of the health care team on specialty rounds accessing students with such issues as eating disorders, attention disorders, and anxiety/depression management. Participate in peer review programs to ensure highest quality of nursing care and fidelity to best practice standards. (2.5%)
Actively participate in any training suggested for staff, including continuing education sessions and quality improvement activities. (2.5%)
Participate in wellness, health promotions and outreach programs to promote campus wide health and wellness initiatives. (2.5%)
CONTACTS
Department: Regular contact with department staff to collaborate with healthcare team members.
University: Regular contact with university colleagues to refer students to university resources such as Educational Support Services, Academic Deans, Athletics, etc.
External: Regular contact with external peers to manage student referrals to outside community health care providers such as University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Metro Health. Occasional contact with parents of students.
Students: Frequent and direct contact with students in a clinical setting.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Train new staff. Function as daily Charge RN in assigned clinical area.
QUALIFICAITONS
Education/Experience/Licensing: RN license in the State of Ohio. Bachelor's degree (BSN) and 3 years of experience OR Associate degree (ADN) and 7 years of experience, OR High School education and 11 years of experience required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Possess clinical nursing experience in direct patient care.
Ability to provide age-appropriate care for the populations(s) served, identify and respond effectively to the unique needs of each population.
Ability to provide care in a manner which enhances patient satisfaction and respects all aspects of an individual patient's identity.
Works with a high degree of independence and under general direction of the Director of Clinical Operations.
Experience using an electronic health records system to document all clinical encounters. Maintain accurate and complete records, document patient condition, active problems, treatments, medication, and outcomes promptly.
Knowledge of safety policies and procedures of the university and keep up with new trends in nursing safety and compliance with national standards for safe care.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage projects and programs.
Active listening to facilitate patient care along with excellent communication skills.
Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team process.
Ability to provide support and training to other clinical staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The employee will be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. Personal protective equipment (gloves, masks, eye protection) will be provided. Maybe required to participate in on-call schedule or be on site evenings or weekends as clinical demand warrant. Work during snow emergencies or other unexpected campus closures may be necessary.
