$21.45 - $32.20

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and three years' phlebotomy experience.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
- Phlebotomy Technician certification, ASCP preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Conducts practical clinical phlebotomy training and evaluation of new employees and students and monitors progress and performance. 2. Assures efficient and effective operation of phlebotomy services. 3. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and leadership in all areas of operation. 4. Assures accurate and timely collection of blood specimens, according to departmental practices. 5. Assures accurate identification and delivery of patient samples to appropriate lab sections. 6. Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment. 7. Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department. 8. Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education. 9. Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approval policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases. 10. Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing. 11. Provides age-appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults. 12. Adheres to the general Medical Center standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Proficient in use of LIS electronic collection devices and lab reference material Ability to build cooperation between staff members Effective oral, written, and listening communications skills Technical ability and interest Interpersonal and problem-solving skills Exhibits professional attitude May require working any shift in a 24-hour period, 7 days/week, including holidays and possibly taking call
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances Exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens or patients Exposure to risk of blood borne/airborne disease Possible exposure to odorous chemicals and specimens Subject to injury from sharps Subject to stressful situations and many interruptions Occasionally subject to irregular hours Moderate noise environment May require judgment/action which could result in death of patient Must wear protective equipment (gloves, gowns/lab coats, eye protection, face protection)
