The Certified Medical Assistant CMA provides patient care services in accordance with scope of practice as defined by state law and established policies and procedures of Careteam Plus Family Health & Specialty Care. Provides patient care by assisting with the collection of patient health data to be used for the complete physical assessment, administering treatment and medications, performing diagnostic tests as ordered by provider. Accurately records patient medical history, performs medication reconciliation, provides patient education and facilitates care coordination and continuity of care acting as a liaison with other members of patient's team.

ESSENTIAL DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, confirming reason for visit.
Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests, taking vitals and reporting patient history summary.
Collaborates with providers to arrange for medical treatment and complete referrals as ordered in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Performs occupational and health screening tests ordered by providers.
Conducts appropriate CLIA Waived laboratory tests and quality control procedures as ordered.
Documents accurately all elements of patient care including but not limited to: communication, treatments, immunizations, medications administered, discharge instructions, provided, and follow up care arranged.
Collaborates with providers to evaluate health education/promotion needs of patients and provides necessary education and instruction.
Identifies emergent situations and provides care as directed by provider.
Administers medications and medical treatments competently as directed by provider.
Maintains medical records using electronic health record.
Maintains a clean and safe environment. Follows infection control procedures.
Maintains patient privacy and confidential patient information in accordance with established policies and procedures and HIPAA regulations.
Completes follow up phone calls and communications and facilitates follow up patient visits.
Completes Prior-Authorizations and Pre-Certifications as may be needed.
Provide coordination across continuum of care by collaborating with other organizations, follow up on no-show visits, tracking return to office orders, diagnostic imaging orders, laboratory orders and referral orders to completion in accordance with established procedures.
Reviews patient care needs prior to patient visit according to established clinical guidelines.
Participates in Quality Improvement Program activities, CQI efforts and applicable meetings.
Effectively and efficiently utilize EHR to assist organizational CQI efforts, clinical data validation, coordination with external providers, and completeness and accuracy of patient record.
Careteam staff work together as a team and help each other and patients/clients by performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Graduate of one of the following post-secondary medical assisting education programs that included medical terminology, pharmacology, medical lab techniques and accredited by:
National Healthcareer Association or;
Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or;
Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools or;
Any accrediting agency by the US Dept of Education
Experience
A minimum of one year prior experience with Primary Care CMA direct patient care work required.
Experience with Athena EMR preferred.
Certification, License, Registration
Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant required and issued by:
American Association of Medical Assistants or;
National Center for Competency Testing or;
National Certification Medical Association or;
American Medical Technologists or;
Any other recognized certifying body of approved by the Board of Medical Examiners or;
Current BLS certification required.
Other
Meets Careteam Plus Employee Health Hep B vacc/screening program requirements.
Meets Careteam Plus Employee Health Tuberculosis screening program requirements.
