Job Description Summary:

Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC), with offices in Connecticut, Colorado and California, is one of the country’s most creative and dynamic providers of primary medical, dental, and behavioral health services, and a leader in practice-based research, health professionals training, and use of innovative technologies to advance health and healthcare. CHC is designated as a federally qualified health center and a patient-centered medical home by HRSA, the Joint Commission, and NCQA, respectively. We deliver more than 600,000 patient visits per year from primary care hubs and community clinics across the state of CT, all connected by technology and common standards for quality. We employ several hundred medical, dental, and behavioral health providers who are engaged in practice, teaching, and research. Our Weitzman Institute is devoted to research and practice transformation and is recognized around the country as one of the premier research institutes focused on improving health care and health outcomes for special and vulnerable populations. Job Description:

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Practice Group Business Manager (PGBM) works directly with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer to ensure well-coordinated operational support and overall business management to drive strategic and profitable growth for the practice group. The PGBM engages in analysis and best practices and deploys applicable tools to evaluate and increase the revenue, control expenses, ensure advantageous payor relationships, and improve profitability and efficiencies of the practice group. This role is also responsible for supporting the Vice President of Practice Administration and Clinical Chiefs (Medical, Behavioral Health and Dental) in implementing agency-wide strategic initiatives at the practice level. This position must always maintain professionalism and strict confidentiality in all matters while exercising sound judgment.

  • Establish and maintain clear and consistent lines of communication with the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Clinical Chiefs (Medical, Behavioral Health and Dental), VP of Practice Administration and other senior administrative team members.
  • Proactively review the day-to-day operational running of the practices including taking a hands-on approach to identifying and implementing appropriate actions to address needs
  • Regularly round at site practices to review current state and propose best practice operational enhancements including patient flow, capacity, staffing, and revenue generation/expense reduction, all while maintaining high professional standards, supporting compassionate care and optimizing the patient experience; Lean Six Sigma principles may be helpful in many of these efforts.
  • Develop and define appropriate strategies to manage and support the profitable growth of the practice group; evaluate and propose improvements to the practice groups’ structure
  • Supervise and monitor agency-wide access to appointments on an ongoing basis, identifying areas of concern and developing a remediation plan(s)
  • Escalate issues related to patient scheduling to Operations Leadership
  • Monitor clinician workload, productivity and utilization reports in order to identify productivity barriers; make recommendations to achieve CHC goals and best practices, partnering with Clinical Chiefs and Operations Team, and reporting to Executive Leadership
  • Supervise and monitor clinician schedules on an ongoing basis to ensure templates are built appropriately
  • Ensure new clinician productivity metrics are correct and continuously updated as needed in CHC systems
  • Collaborate with Finance leadership to ensure clinician productivity metrics align with fiscal budget estimates
  • Monitor and advise on billing and collection practices in partnership with the Finance team
  • Act as liaison with Finance to analyze financial reports; manage financial performance to ensure all key metrics are met and growth in revenue and profitability are supported.
  • Manage and negotiate payor contracts in partnership with Finance; stay abreast of all managed care program changes and developments and ensure timely execution and filing of executed contract amendments
  • Gather, analyze, and forecast economic data of the practice group and assess performance on an ongoing basis in partnership with the COO, CFO, Clinical Chiefs and VP of Practice Administration
Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS

BA/BS required; MBA or MHA preferred. Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
5+ years of experience in a supervisory/administrative capacity in a multi-specialty practice with multiple care sites. FQHC and/or experience with Medicaid populations preferred.
Strong physician practice management required; strong financial acumen preferred
Demonstrated experience in driving process and continuous improvements to systems and procedures to improve effectiveness of operational activities from inception to implementation
Demonstrated ability to think creatively and outside the box, challenge the status quo, introduce new ideas and apply innovative solutions
Self-motivated, strategic and analytical thinker with high level of initiative and attention to detail
Strong ability to influence, lead and drive change across practice areas
Exceptional organizational skills with keen time management skills to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, and negotiating skills, exhibiting professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
