  Medical Assistant (Vanderbilt Lung Institute-Pulmonary Clinic)(One Hundred Oaks)

Your Role:

Supports the licensed healthcare team in performing office examinations and procedures by organizing and managing clinic patient flow, gathering and documenting patient screening data, assist with patient and family education and communication with patient's health care team.

This position will support check in of patients in our One Hundred Oaks location. The person selected will be responsible for clinic intake and vital signs. This is a growing clinic location as we are adding our fellows (approximately 16 providers) and 4 new providers to this clinic location. It will be imperative to have the medical assistant to support the daily clinic operation. This position will also be cross-trained to work the front desk and help support our administrative team at the Vanderbilt Lung Institute-Pulmonary Clinic at the One Hundred Oaks location.

Medical Assistant sign on bonus:*

  • $1,500 - 1 year or less of experience
  • $3,000 – More than a year of experience

*Medical Assistant Sign On Bonus Eligibility Requirements:

  • The sign on bonus is available for full-time Medical Assistant positions.
  • This sign on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past two years.
  • The installment will be paid out in three installments

The Vanderbilt Lung Institute-Pulmonary Clinic brings together experts in diagnosing and treating lung disease from pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery and allergy. This unique approach gives hope through coordinated, personalized and compassionate care for even the most complex conditions that affect the lungs and breathing.

Monday – Friday; Days. 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs and supports patient flow as well as unit operations by maintaining supplies, equipment and unit environmental standards.
  • Facilitates identification of resources to meet patient healthcare needs.
  • Performs/assists with procedures according to organizational/departmental standards.
  • Collects and documents patient screening data for the healthcare team.
  • Assists with patient and family education.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:

CLINICAL COMPETENCIES (NOVICE):- Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency to assist and perform clinical care including but not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection and point of care testing as directed by unit standards.

CLINICAL PATIENT DOCUMENTATION (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS):- Has limited experience or training working with clinical applications for patient documentation.

ENVIRONMENT OF CARE (NOVICE):- Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency with set up and maintenance of patient exam room, supplies and equipment.

PLANNING & ORGANIZING (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS):- Demonstrates ability to anticipate basic resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work for own assignments and responsibilities. Appropriately matches equipment, and capital resources to task demands. Prepares and presents clear and accurate status reports on projects and assignments.

Job Requirements
Qualifications - Internal
High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) and < 1 year relevant industry.

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experiences:

Strong customer service experience is critical for this position
Telephone etiquette
Ability to get the job done and maintain a smooth clinic flow
Team player
Detail-oriented
Medical office / clinic experience highly desired
Internal candidates preferred
Familiar with eStar and EPIC

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration (LCR):

Certified Medical Assistant or Registerd Medical Assistant highly desired
Additional Qualification Information:

Medical Assistants must have and maintain a certification from one of the VUMC approved MA programs within 90 days of employment. Vanderbilt endorsed MA certifications: American Medical Technologists (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP). Others organizations may be considered on a case by case basis.
