Job Description

The Collections Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely completion and submission of Medicare, Medicaid, private payer, and patient billing. Further responsibilities include accounts receivable tracking and follow-up.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • The Billing and Collection Coordinator will assist the Financial Department in maximizing revenue by submitting timely and accurate claims according to agency policies and all payer guidelines
  • The Billing and Collection Coordinator will follow up on all unbilled, unpaid, rejected, and denied accounts and will also oversee correcting and resubmitting rejected and denied accounts/claims
  • The Billing and Collection Coordinator will be responsible for monitoring and thorough follow-up of all AR account (Accounts Receivable)
  • The Billing and Collection Coordinator will be responsible for patient and payer calls regarding billing/collections and provides professional responses and resolutions in an accurate and timely manner
  • The Billing and Collection Coordinator Has a strong understanding of CMS regulations, Managed Care and insurance company payment principles, rules, and regulations
  • The Billing and Collection Coordinator understands private payers’ contracts
  • The Billing and Collection Coordinator must maintain the strictest confidentiality and adheres to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations
  • Chart review for charges/data entry
  • Correcting/resubmitting denials and clearinghouse claim rejections
  • Monitor and follow up on current, unbilled, and past-due claims
  • Eligibility and authorization verification
  • Be accurate and attend to details
  • Answering phones/emails timely
  • Willing to help assist co-workers and learn new billing-related skills
  • Keeping management informed of all billing/collections related issues

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds.

Job Requirements
Position Qualifications

-At least two years of experience in healthcare data entry , preferably in home health care systems
-At least one year of previous healthcare related billing experience, preferably in home health care billing
able to use IBM-compatibles systems and equipment
-High school Diploma, GED (Bachelors Degree preferred or equivalent work experience)
-Superior multitasking ability
-Medical Terminology familiarity
