Job Description

The Seattle Indian Health Board (SIHB) is a community health center that provides health and human services to its patients, while specializing in the care of Native people. We are recognized as a leader in the promotion of health improvement for urban American Indians and Alaska Natives, locally and nationally.

 
SIHB is currently hiring a Medical Assistant (MA) SupervisorThe MA Supervisor works closely with the Clinical Services Director, nurses and clinicians to expedite patient care. This position provides oversight of medical assistants and oversees special projects. This role ensures competency, quality, appropriateness and coverage of MA services. This position is also expected to function as a clinic MA when coverage needs dictate. The MA Supervisor reports directly to the Clinical Services Director, is a member of the Medical team and has direct reports.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Six years clinic work experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Current WA State Medical Assistant Certification
  • Current Basic Life Support certification
  • Direct supervisory experience, including the ability to provide measurable performance evaluations.
  • Excellent organizational skills: ability to monitor, assess and prioritize workflows.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including problem-solving, team-building, conflict-resolution.
  • Proficiency using: an electronic health record system; Word; and Excel.
  • Knowledge of WA state regulations governing medical assistants.
  • Working knowledge of medical clinic operations; fluency in medical terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • The preferred candidate should have an interest in assisting and working with the American Indian/Alaska Native population; knowledge of the health and social issues facing this demographic is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching/training experience preferred.
  • Bilingual or fluency in other languages a plus.
  • The ability to be comfortable with Traditional Indian practices, including smudging.
Work Environment: Office hours are 8-5, Monday through Friday with occasional extra hours for events.
Job Requirements
-Supervise medical assistants: conduct performance evaluations, recommend and assist with trainings, participate in M.A. recruitment, ensure compliance of supervised staff with policies and procedures (employee relations issues).
-Work collaboratively with peer MA Supervisor to complete MA supervisor tasks and responsibilities.
-Clear and frequent communication with Clinical Services Manager and Medical Director.
-Oversee M.A. staff meetings and in-service participation.
-Ensure compliance with organization and external standards (AAAHC, OSHA, etc.)
-Attend and participate in organization meetings, including management, utilization, QCC and other meetings as needed.
-Assist administrative staff in grant and contract development or other areas as requested. Prepare and submit information for grants/contracts reporting and other purposes as needed. Prepare special reports as assigned.
-Be available to respond to patient complaints or other important issues within the clinic; provide resolution and documentation.
-Actively participate in internal quality-improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality-improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal/state/local laws and regulations, and accreditation standards.
-Work well under pressure, meet multiple and often competing deadlines.
-At all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with supervisors, subordinates, colleagues, clients and the community.
-Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards, when assigned.
