Under the direction of a radiologist, performs a limited variety of studies/procedures (dexascan) using ionizing radiation (x-rays) for the diagnosis of medical condition in pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
Greets, gives patient instructions and aids in patient positioning assigned to care plan or type of radiographic image needed.
Core Job Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Confirms patient’s identification, orders, history, procedure, imaging site, and protocols procedure with radiologist as needed.
Understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process in providing service to patients of the age population served.
Involved in Transportation of patients to and from the exam room and assists them into position using safe patient handling techniques and equipment.
Implements radiology procedures and observes patient during procedure as top priority to ensure patient's safety and comfort.
Observes all required radiation safety/protection regulations and standards to minimize dose and repeat images.
Manages and administers contrast materials based on procedure. Must be able to initiate emergency response to contrast reaction as needed.
Evaluates images for technical quality assurance including image laterality marking and annotation in accordance with radiology procedure protocols. Reviews radiographs for diagnostic qualities, directs any uncertainty through proper chain of command. Loads and unloads radiographic films.
Utilizes ancillary image management systems such as, but not limited to image intensifiers, spot film devices, CR equipment, video monitors, digital imaging, C-arms, and portable units.
May assist in organization of daily workflow for the department’s activities.
Maintains a systematic, clean, and safe environment for patients and other healthcare staff in designated areas. Provides aid in stocking and inventory as assigned.
Ensures all equipment is in efficient operating order including, all documentation required for quality control testing. Communicates any service repairs and maintenance as directed.
Engages and participates in orientation, training, and in-servicing of healthcare staff, as directed, or needed.
Uses and provides appropriate lead shielding
Utilizes proper body mechanics for self, patients, and other health care staff.
Experience, education, skills, licensure, or training required:
1. Graduate of a school of Radiology Limited Program.
2. Certified Radiology Technician in California (CRT).
3. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current
4. One-year experience as a Radiology Technology
5. Medical Assistant Certification
6. Knowledge of medical terminology
7. Working experience with Epic EHR (preferred)
8. Minimum 1-3 years working experience in outpatient health care setting (preferred)
9. Bilingual: English/Spanish (preferred)
